War On Pornography

Following the high spate of sexual penetration involving children, the Sierra Police (SLP) has reportedly raised alarm over pornographic materials in mobile phones.

Speaking on the increase in sexual penetration cases in Bo, the Regional Media Officer, South, Sgt. Foday Fofanah explained that mobile phones use by children nowadays are  full of pornographic videos and photos which, he said, lures them into sexual acts.

In Bo, he said, ten cases of sexual penetration have been reported in one week. Giving a breakdown of the cases, he said, Bo West Division received four whilst six was recorded at the Bo-East Division. All the cases, he said, are under investigation and would be charged to court as, according to him, the force do not compromise sexual penetration offences.

He however confessed that the SLP is facing challenges when it comes to witnesses to testify during prosecutions. The police, he said, always charge perpetrators to court but that in most cases, there are no witnesses available to testify.

Some Civil Society Organisations, he said, have vowed to follow up on matters when they are charged to court but that they are sometime restrained.

He concluded that parents and guardians also have roles to play in curbing such menace in society.
