Victor Foh, Others In Court Today

Three senior government officials of the erstwhile All People’s Congress (APC) government, who were slammed corruption related charges by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), in the persons of former Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh, Mr. Sheka Sahid Kamara and Mr. Abubakarr Carew, will today make their first appearance before the Freetown High Court on four counts charge, each.

It could be recalled that the three were indicted by the ACC for allegedly squandering funds allocated to the 2017 Hajj programme.

The charges read: Count-1, conspiracy to commit corruption offence contrary to Section 128 of the ACC Act of 2008 by Victor Bockarie Foh and Sheka Sahid Kamara; Count-2, misappropriation of public funds contrary to Section 36 of the ACC Act of 2008 by Victor Bockarie Foh and Sheka Sahid Kamara; Count-3, misappropriation of public funds contrary to Section 36 of the ACC Act of 2008 by Sheka Sahid Kamara and Count-4, willfully and negligently failing to comply with applicable procedures and guidelines relating to the management of funds contrary to Section 48 Sub-section 26 of the ACC Act of 2008.

After unsealing the indictment of the three accused persons on the 5th of July 2018, the current ACC Boss, Francis Ben Kaifala Esq. declared that the ACC was going to wage war on corruption, stating that this time round, it is not going to be business as usual. He assured that the trial of the three accused will be fair and transparent, adding that the Commission will not be engaged in any shadow boxing this time round.

The trial on today’s date, according the ACC boss, will commence in harness as scheduled.

Meanwhile, it is expected that today’s trial will witness a battery of APC lawyers for the accused.
