Sierra Leone Ambassador to the United State of America (USA), Amb. Sidique Abu Bakarr wai has disclosed that they are engaging USA Department to lift the travel ban placed on Sierra Leone and several other African countries.

The new set of travel ban was imposed late last year by US President Donald Trump to curb the incredible flow of illegal migrants to the USA.

Currently, the USA is deporting illegal immigrants from several African countries, including Sierra Leoneans. Up to fifty Sierra Leoneans have been deported despite many people claim the deportees are not Sierra Leoneans.

According to Ambassador S.A.B Wai, under the new policy, anyone perceived as a Sierra Leonean that is facing deportation must be sent with a valid Sierra Leonean passport and birth certificate to the Embassy, adding that the US authorities must provide them with valid deportation order from a USA Judge clarifying that all legal remedies entitled the deportees under U.S law being satisfied.

He said advanced notification is provided to Sierra Leonean authorities on arrival of deportees before departure to Sierra Leone.
