Wellington-Masiaka Highway Proj. Launched
President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma is today expected to officially launch the rehabilitation and construction work of the four-lane Wellington-Masiaka highway. The ceremony is expected to take place at Waterloo, following Parliamentary approval last month. The road is being constructed by the Chinese Railway Seventh Group. However, the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has already invited companies to tender interest to carry out supervision of civil works on the project. The Wellington Masiaka highway is the main road to and from the capital city and has previously undergone some rehabilitation up to ECOWAS standard. It is to be upgraded to a dual carriageway to suit the present projected traffic demand and also incorporate a toll system. Part of the works to be carried out on the new road include, strengthening of existing bridges and also construction of new bridges. It will also have three toll systems along the entire roasd. According to the SLRA, the civil work is expected to last for Four years.
