To Ensure Fiscal Stability… Finance Ministry Bolsters Accountant General’s Office

The Ministry of Finance has reportedly allocated funds to the Accountant’s General Department from the Government of Sierra Leone in a bid to ensure fiscal stability with the view to promoting sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction.

The Ministry of Finance will help to develop a sound public financial management system to support the achievement of fiscal discipline in a strategic efficient and effective manner for the use of fund, value for money and financial probity.

The Accountant General’s Department also intends to use part of the said fund to hire the services of a credible firm with required expertise to roll out the IFMIS system to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education.

To achieve its aim, the Ministry of Finance has reportedly engaged in a number of public financial management reforms of which the IFMIS has continued to be the cornerstone of such public reforms. According to reports the IFMIS system has been rolled out to 30 Ministries Departments and Agencies under the purview of the Public Financial Management improvement and consolidated project in the Ministry of Finance.
