The Battle Line Is Drawn… ACC Vs FIFA

FIFA, the world’s football governing body has reacted to the ultimatum delivered by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) ordering the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Madam Isha Johansen and the Secretary General, Chris Kamara to temporarily vacate their offices while being tried for allegations of corruption or risk being arrested and charged for contempt.

In reaction to this latest development, the Executive of SLFA on 14th of September, 2018 received a letter from FIFA stating that they are closely monitoring developments in relation to the SLFA affairs as it plans to provide the association’s Committee with an update after a meeting on 26th of September, 2018. Meanwhile, FIFA insists that the agreed Roadmap be strictly adhered to by all parties as a SLFA/FIFA inquiry group is expected in the country soon.

FIFA reiterates that under Article 13 of its Constitution, SLFA is obliged to adhere to directives and dictates of the latter at all times unreservedly.

With the battle line drawn between the ACC and FIFA, the unanswered question on the lips of many Sierra Leoneans is: “would ACC whose order to Isha and Chris Kamara to step down becomes effective after 19th September, exercise patience and allow the FIFA team to come and resolve the impasse between the Isha executive and stakeholders, or would it follow the letter of the law, stating that Isha and Chris Kamara must step aside while being tried?
