The Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has handed over a huge chunk of documents to the Sierra Leone Police to carryout a thorough corruption related investigation into entire activities of the Ministry.

She made this disclosure recently, while opening a two-day sub-regional consultation for the drafting of a new policy on the economic social and political empowerment of women in the Mano River Union sub-region.

According to the Minister, her reason for handing over these documents was based on her discovery of some illegal activities going on in the Ministry.

Dr. Slyvia Blyden continued that no one has ever had the courage and confidence to do such a thing in order to reduce the level of corruption in the country and also make sure that government budget is expended for its intended purpose.

While declaring the consultation ceremony open, the Minister urged all gender stakeholders operating in the country to consult the ministry before undertaking any activities. He also spoke on the support that the government has been providing to women, adding that that notwithstanding, there are still a huge challenges in economic empowerment of women.

Meanwhile, some officials at MSWGA are reported to having sleepless nights as they await the outcome of the investigations by the SLP.
