Strasser Discharged Tomorrow

The Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Francess Anderson has confirmed that the former Head of State and Chairman of the National Provisional Revolutionary Council (NPRC) military regime, Rtd. Capt. Valentine Essegrebo Melvin Strasser would be discharged from the Eurocare Advanced Diagnostic and Heart Center in Accra tomorrow, where he was flown by the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) for surgery on his left leg.

After a nine-hour surgery on his left leg, the 51-year-old former Head of State is reported to be responding to treatment. Strasser suffered shrapnel and gunshot wounds to his leg as a young military officer in the then Sierra Leone Army (SLA) whilst defending his country in the Eastern Region during the invasion of the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebels.

Before his evacuation to Ghana for medical treatment, Strasser was initially admitted at the 34 Military Hospital at Wilberforce for about two weeks before he was moved to the Aspen Hospital at Brookfields when his condition deteriorated. Report states that he was moved to the private clinic on the orders of President Julius Maada Bio following his visit to 34 Military Hospital.

The President also reportedly sanctioned that the GoSL should foot all the medical bills of the former Head of State with an executive clearance for him to be airlifted to Accra for medical treatment.
