Stats SL Boss To Attend China-Africa Conference

By Ayodele Deen Cole

Professor Osman A. Sankoh, Statistician General of Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL), will be attending the 3rd China-Africa Conference on Population and Development on 23rd – 26th June in Accra, Ghana to discuss important population and development lessons that can benefit Africa generally and Sierra Leone specifically.

These lessons, it is hoped, will furnish participants with successful procedures for more sustainable population and economic dynamics. Professor Sankoh will be making a presentation on the topic “The search for an understanding of population dynamics in Sierra Leone: the different players” with a focus on the winner vision for the institution.

Since his commencement of his term in office, the establishment of Stats SL has seen a vital overhauling of systems and procedures to obtain, translate and furnish the public and government institutions with data on the status, priority areas and opportunities within and outside the country. The Africa-China Conference annually held in partnership with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has been known to prioritize issues of investments in education, women’s empowerment, and job creation for the youth, areas significantly favored by the current agendas of the government.
