By Aruna Rashed Toma Bangura

Speaking recently at the just conclude 2019 Budget hearing at the Bank of Sierra Leone Complex, Kingtom, the Director General of Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Engineer Memunatu Jalloh called on government to look into the salaries received by Engineers.

According to her, workers’ salaries at the SLRA are not remunerative or commensurate to the services they offering to government, adding that there are no incentives for the workers.

Her salary as Chief Engineer, she added, cannot even be compared to Engineers working for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) whilst lamenting that they went through hard times to study and in turn serve their country with diligence but that she is disappointed over the fact that their take-home is ridiculous.

She insisted that the government should review the salaries of workers at the SLRA especially technocrats as according to her,  some professional workers of SLRA had staged a strike action over the low salaries they are receiving and the poor conditions of service under which the operate.
