SLPP Headquarters To Get Facelift

By Ayodele Deen-Cole

The National Executive of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is reportedly set to give a full facelift to the entire building housing the party’s national headquarters on Wallace Johnson Street, Freetown.

The rehabilitation of the building, party sources say, is part of the ruling party’s projects to transform the face image and brand of the party.

Already, the SLPP is reported to be undertaking several construction and rehabilitation projects in some of its districts party office across the country.

However, some members of the party who are currently squatters are said to be agitating for their relocation packages which, they claimed, the party’s National Executive had promised them before the end of the rainy season.

Speaking to this press recently at the party Headquarter, one of the squatters, Abu Bakarr Sillah said that the rehabilitation of the party’s national headquarters is welcomed news for all members and supporters of the party.

According to him, the current party Headquarters is a partial death trap as it has not been rehabilitated for decades, thereby deepening  the already existing cracks all over the facility .He told this press that for now, the party national Headquarter slacks many modern facilities like a conducive conference hall, offices, entertainment section among others. Sillah also told this press that they are expecting the SLPP National Executive to come up with a cost effective plan, so that they will not tap into government funds for the rehabilitation process, rather they should depend on party finances and donations  from donors and friends.

He advised other squatters to be law abiding and give the party executive the chance to build the image of the party now that they are in power.

Effort to reaches the SLPP chairman and Secretary General for comments, proved futile.
