SLPP Assures Sports Lovers

The vice presidential candidate of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Bah has stated that one of the main priorities of the party if elected into office will be reviving sporting disciplines in the country.
Speaking on the state’s broadcaster past Monday, Dr. Bah disclosed that the SLPP will de-politicize sports in the country to ensure total independence and allow Sierra Leoneans to participate freely without being threatened. By so doing, he said, the country will benefit enormously from International Federations while government will invest hugely on the development of sports.

Dr. Bah recounted that Sierra Leoneans enjoyed the best part of sports, during the era of the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) at the time when the current flagbearer of the party, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio was at the helm of affairs.

During that era, the national football team, Leone Stars, he said, did not only win the Zone II Amilca Cabral Trophy back-to-back but also qualified for the Africa Nations Cup in 1994 in Tunisia and 1996 in South Africa. Sierra Leoneans, he said, have an opportunity to develop sports and reclaim lost glory if they vote the SLPP.

It could be recalled that at the just concluded presidential debate, Dr. Samura Kamara of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party apologized for the bad state of sports and promised to improve on the situation if he becomes President.
