A business magnate, Mohamed Bassem was on Sunday 20th January, 2019 reelected President of the Sierra Leone Industrial Fishing Companies Association (SLIFCA) to man the affairs of the association for the next five years.

Speaking on reelection of the President and other executive members, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association, Mr. Alfred Badara Turay, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Peninsular Shanjun Fishing Company, said their reelection was predicated on their committed and assiduous efforts in working in the interest of the association and its members.

SLIFCA, he said, comprised of thirty fishing companies nationwide and that the executive has a mandate to seek the interest of its members and liaise with government in mapping the way forward on any government decision and concerns raised by fishing companies.

“We want to see a situation where we all speak with one voice and move in the same direction for the development of our members and the country,” said PRO Badara.

Unlike Sierra Leone, no new fishing company will be licensed or to operate without the consent of the industrial fishing companies’ association in other countries in the sub-region.

The entire Executive went unopposed and was unanimously voted in to serve in their various positions for the next five years.

The main executive includes, Mohamed Bassem of Sierra Fishing Company President, Alie John Turay of Shanka Fishing Company as Vice President, Alhaji Conteh of Skiki Fishing Agency as Secretary General, Mohamed Saba of Sabao Fishing Company as Treasurer, Alfred Badara Turay of Penisula Shanjun as Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Alieu Barrie of Hills Fishing Company as Coordinator.
