Sleepless Nights For Civil Servants… 200 To Lose Jobs

The public/civil service biometric verification exercise that was done last year by the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) as instructed by the Ministry of Finance and the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) in order to get the actual figure of employees on the government payroll that unearthed many ‘ghost workers’ to whom salaries were being paid, the public/civil service academic qualification exercise ordered by His Excellency the President, Julius Maada Bio to be done by the HRMO for employees on Grade Seven and above is said to be causing sleepless nights for over two hundred people.

Confidentially, sources at HRMO have intimated this press that many ‘bras’ occupying big positions in the public and civil service do not have the requisite academic and professional qualifications for the positions they hold. Sources further intimated that this has been a cause of resentment and frustration in the service for many qualified people who, sources said, are now silently jubilating that they are now going to know who is who, stating that the exercise is a step in the right direction in getting a competent, functional civil service to promote the government’s desire to provide the people with better state management and improved service delivery.

However, others view the President’s order with great cynicism, claiming that the exercise is a ploy to purge supporters and sympathizers of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) from the civil service.
