Siaka Stevens’ Son For APC Flagbearer

Son of the late President Siaka Probyn Stevens, Dr Jengo Stevens has declared for the party’s flagbearer candidacy for the 2023 presidential election. He made this disclosure on Friday 22nd January 2021 at his No. 9 Hill Cut Road residence, west of Freetown.

According to Dr Jengo Stevens, he has not written officially to inform the party Secretariat but has discussed his intention with their Chairman and Leader, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and some friends and family.

“I am the best to lead our party to victory come 2023 because I am a politician who cuts across,” said the flagbearer aspirant, noting that he is not tribalistic, as he views issues from national perspective not on tribal or regional line.

Sierra Leone, he said, is blessed and endowed with natural resources and that if his party awards him the symbol and he subsequently becomes the next president at the 2023 poll, Sierra Leone will be food sufficient in one year.

“In one year, I will improve on agriculture in a way that we will no longer import rice but rather export it,” said Dr. Stevens recalling that it used to happen in the past.

He continued that he is currently doing subsistence farming but that in 2022 he will embark on large scale farming on his 126 acres of land along the Waterloo- Masiaka highway.

The APC flagbearer aspirant added that he has served the party and the people of Sierra Leone at the legislative arm of government representing his Kambia maternal home for four terms and now he wants to go for a bigger representation come 2023.

The election of the APC presidential candidate, he said, will follow a democratic process and therefore the endorsement of one candidate by few would not discourage him from the race.

He concluded that he still maintains his position as member of the National Advisory Committee (NAC) which is the second highest decision making body of the party.
