Shakeup In The Military

By Ayodele Deen-Cole

There has been a major shakeup within the senior ranks of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces with the transfer of Commanders from one unit to another. According to a senior military officer who spoke to this press, the following changes have been made in the military recently:

The Commanding Officer (CO) 5th Battalion is transferred to CO 4 Battalion. The Commandant Joint Logistics Unit (JLU) is transferred to Officer Commander Transport Unit. The Commandant 3rd Brigade is now CO AFPC. The CO Daru becomes Chief of Operations at Joint Operations Command, RSLAF headquarters, Cockerill, Freetown.

The source further said the transfers were done after the new government was installed last month. RSLAF, he said, has also gotten a new Commander in-Chief in the person of President Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio.

Meanwhile, the new RSLAF Commander in Chief has assured the United State Ambassador that his government is going to depoliticize the military and make it an independent institution that is totally focused on protecting the interest of the state rather than taking part in politics. He gave the assurance recently while meeting with a delegation from the USA that is in the country to hold discussions on the nation’s security prospect.

Meanwhile, the new RSLAF Commander in Chief promised to upgrade the military in terms of equipment, technical experience and with more activities to boost the force’s morale.
