Shakeup In The Army

True to his promise in an address to the nation quite recently to shakeup the security sector, with the approval of the Defense Council, pursuant to the powers conferred on the highest military council in Section 169 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone Act No. 6 of 1991, last week, His Excellency President Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio appointed Major General Sullay S. as the new Chief of Defense Staff. He also appointed Brigadier General Peter K. Lavahun as the Joint Force Commander of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.

This reshuffle was followed by the retirement of 15 senior military officers with the approval of the Defence Council. They are:

Major Y. S. Brima

Maj. Gen. D. T. O Taluva

Brig. Gen. M. M. Samura

Brig. Gen. U. Turay

Brig. Gen. A. Bangura

Commodore S. Kanu

Brig. Gen. A. K. Fefegula

Brig. Gen. H. S. Jomo

Brig. Gen. V. V. Samba

 Colonel Paul

Col. S. K. Lansana

Col. L. Y. Tucker

Col. Agatha Sandy – JMU

Lt. Col. Tee

Lt. Col. JJ

Reports that the shakeup will continue with more senior officers going on leave to retirement and others promoted to fill their positions.

Meanwhile, it could recalled that similar shakeup took place recently in the police force that saw the retirement of the former Inspector General and his Deputy and the cashiering of ten senior officials found delinquent in the execution of their command during the riots that took place in Lunsar, Tombo and the foiled Pademba Road prisons break.
