Samura Kamara, Maada Bio Embrace

History was made at the St. Luke’s Parish Church at the Wilberforce Military Barrack on Sunday 8th April 2018, when two long-standing distinguished members of the church, His Excellency the President, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio and Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara and other worshippers attended a peace mass organized by the church leadership.

Addressing the congregation, President Julius Maada Bio, who showed respect for his elder brother, Dr. Samura M. W. Kamara, said his security details should not scare anybody. He added that he wanted his fellow Catholics to see him as just an ordinary parishioner. Whilst the President asked the nation to pray for him, he acknowledged that the task that has been assigned to him is enormous, adding that he cannot do it alone but needs the support of the entire nation. The President prayed for divine wisdom and strength.

Speaking magnanimously like a true Christian, Dr. Samura Kamara said the presidential election was a contest between two Godly candidates who worship in the same parish. The church rose to applaud the speaker when he said that it was the church and the Catholic Mission that won.

Dr. Samura Kamara expressed gratitude to all parishioners that sent him goodwill messages during the contest, adding that they helped to strengthen his resolve for the contest. The high spirit which the church showed, he said, was encouraging to both he and President Maada Bio.

Dr. Samura Kamara prayed that the President and his administration do the right thing for the nation, adding that he will continue to work and eat with his fellow worshippers, including President Bio in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit as all Catholics do.

At the end of service, Dr. Samura Kamara and President Bio warmly embraced each other like they did on Palm Sunday, when the former placed a palm leave cross into the chest pocket of the latter.
