The Deputy Principal Financial Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Mathew Dingie at the usual government press briefing held recently at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Youyi Building, disclosed that plans are underway to set up what he referred to as a Salary Commission.

According to the Deputy Financial Secretary, the setting up of the Commission would be to look into salary scheme of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

“The formation of the Commission is in progress and that it will come into existence before the end of 2019,” assured the Deputy Principal Financial Secretary. Commenting on the 2019 budget, which is now before Parliament for approval, Mathew Dingie said that after its approval, it would address the bread and butter issues affecting the masses.

Unlike before, MDAs, he said, will receive their allocations on time, adding that government has increased the salaries of civil servants and has cut down the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax by 5%.

He continued that government is on a good footing in terms of internal revenue mobilization within Le 5.6 billion already collected.

The 2019 budget, he said, is the people’s budget that aims at revamping the economy, going forward.
