Reinstate Isha Now! -FIFA Insists

The world’s football governing body (FIFA) in a letter to the Minister of Sports has called for the reinstatement of Madam Isha Johansen and Chris Kamara as President and Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) respectively and to ensure the operation of the association and not to jeopardize FIFA’s funded projects.

According to the letter, FIFA is extremely concerned over the recent removal of both the SLFA President and Secretary General on the basis of an indictment against them by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

“In this context, we draw your attention to Art 14 paragraph 1 and Art 19 paragraph 1 of the FIFA statutes which oblige all member associations including SLFA to manage their affair independently and without  influenced from any third party,” stated excerpt of the said letter, noting that failure to meet the obligation, may according to Art 14 par 4 of FIFA statutes lead to sanction as provided for in the FIFA statute including a possible sanction even if the third part influence was not the fault of the member association concerned.

FIFA primary objective, the letter states, is the full implementation of the roadmap as agreed by the Government of Sierra Leone, FIFA, CAF and SLFA.

However, in his response, the Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh denied having knowledge of any decision with FIFA in Zurich prior to the letter which is contrary to the opening paragraph of the letter from FIFA which states “we refer to a recent conversation between myself and the authorities of Sierra Leone in relation to possible meeting between a delegation of the Government of Sierra Leone and FIFA.”
