RCB Ends National Debate Competition

Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB) on Saturday 8th December, 2018 ended its annual national debating and literary competition at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel in west end Freetown with the theme: “Financial Awareness Leading to Financial Inclusion.”

In his keynote address, the Deputy Managing Director of RCB, Mr. Emmanuel Borbor emphasized that they believe in His Excellency President Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio’s free quality education flagship programme.

According to the Deputy Managing Director, the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not only limited to providing quality banking service and giving donations, but also supporting education at all levels, including organizing national debating and literary completion annually. “Rokel Commercial Bank cares for the people, school children and we are far beyond banking,” assured Mr. Emmanuel Borbor.

For the debating competition, debaters were drawn from different parts of the country where RCB operates, whilst the judges were Alieu Alian Massaquoi, James Fortune and Alieu Bah, who have several debating trophies and wealth of experience in debating. The competition was organised in three segments where various topics were discussed by different regional debates.

At the end of the competition, Mamoud M. Sheriff, who emerged as the best debater, took home Le 3,000,000.00 (Three Million Leones); the regional winner from Kenema district took home the star prize of Le6, 000,000.00 (Six Million Leones); and the runners-up, Western Area received Le 4,500,000.00 (Four Million, Five Hundred Thousand Leones).

The Managing Director of RCB, Dr. Ekundayo Gilpin, thanked participants of the debating literary competition and invitees and well-wishers that graced the event. He commended efforts by their cherished customers for doing business with the indigenous commercial Bank.

Dr. Ekundayo Gilpin reiterated that they believe in the free quality education flagship programme of the New Direction administration and encouraged their numerous valued customers to continue doing business with RCB.
