Ports GM Hosts SLNSC’s New MD

In what could be described as a show of solidarity and unison in shipping industry, the General Manager of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority, Dr. Abdulai Fofana on last Thursday hosted the new Managing Director of the Sierra Leone National Shipping Company (SLNSC) at the Sierra Leone Ports Authority Conference room.

The meeting which attracted cross sections of SLPA and SLNSC management teams was to chat the way forward to see how the two entities would contribute to harmonise the operations of the shipping industry in Sierra Leone.

Addressing the meeting, SLPA Dr. Fofana said the Sierra Leone Ports Authority and the Sierra Leone National Shipping Company are major players in the shipping industry and therefore called for cooperation and coordination in their operations.

The no-nonsense General Manager said in his capacity as Chief Servant of SLPA, business would no longer be as usual.

“Let’s us collaborate and cooperate. Let’s bring the change to effect change, and let’s innovate change to fit into the business environment.”

On his part, the new Managing Director of the Sierra Leone National Shipping Company, Mr. Ahmed Sabom Kanu described the meeting as a major stride to foster the continued business relationship between the two entities.  Mr. Kanu furthered that there are so many players in the shipping industry and called for their cooperation and collaborations to harmonise the clearance processes of consignments at the port.

The meeting agreed that stakeholders’ meeting of the Ministry of Transport & Aviation, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health , the Sierra Leone Ports Authority, the Sierra Leone National Shipping Company and  the National Revenue Authority be called upon  to further  look into how best the clearance processes at the Port could be harmonised.
