PMB Executive Chairman May Resign

By Thomas S. Kembay

The Executive Chairman of the Produce Monitoring Board (PMB), Dr. James Vibbi is reported to have said he would resign if Parliament insists that he withdraws his letter of suspension and reinstates the Executive Secretary of the Board.

Responding to orders given to him on Tuesday 15th January, 2019 by the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Abass Chernor Bundu to write an apology letter to Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay and Members of Parliament; withdraw a complaint letter that he wrote on the 28th December, 2018 and to reinstate Haja Isata Kabba as the Executive Secretary of PMB.

Dr. James Vibbi acceded to two of the orders from the Speaker, which are the withdrawal of the complaint letter and the letter of apology to Hon. Veronica K. Sesay and other MPs, but however stood his ground that he was ready to resign and undergo any penalties from Parliament instead of reinstating the Executive Secretary.

The stance of the PMB Executive Chairman, according to inside sources, is in line with the doctrine and principles of the New Direction zero tolerance to corruption, adding that the suspended Executive Secretary is currently under investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for a huge sum of money to the tune of Le5 billion for which the ACC, pursuant to Section 134 (1) of the ACC Act of 2012, ordered for her suspension with half pay.
