The Committee on Trade in Parliament has held an interactive meeting with the Ministry of Trade and its department and agencies at State Hall in Parliament

Speaking at the familiarization meeting, the committee Chairman, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay expressed dismay over the manner in which the Minister, his departments and agencies treated her.

The MPs were not pleased with the behavior of the Chief Director and the harsh way he treated their Committee Chairman, he was however forced to tender his unreserved apology to her and the entire committee members.

The MPs also checkmated the Ministry for proposing to reduce some of the functions and powers of some of its departments and agencies.

According to the MPs, all the proposed programmes the Ministry has catalogued were news to them and that the Ministry does nothing without their prior knowledge and approval.

According to Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara of Constituency 59 in the Kambia district, what the Ministry of Trade intends doing to its line departments and agencies has the propensity to kill some of these entities and that they vehemently opposed to, as they are not here to frustrate the work of MDAs.

Meanwhile, almost all the ministry’s line department and agencies appeared before the Committee, a move the Chairman and the entire Committee members applauded and encouraged them to continue to holding such interactive meetings with the Committee.
