Hon. Hindolo Moiwo Geavao, lawyer representing the family of a deceased toddler, Raja, a Lebanese national has called on the Sierra Leone Police force to mount a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of the poor child.

The report was filed few weeks ago by one Ashraf Akkad against a private foreign medical practitioner operating in the country by the name of Dr. Shuman.

Speaking at a press conference held at his Old Railway Line offices in Freetown, Hon Geavao said that the report against Dr. Shuman was made after his client suspected a foul play in the death of the one year three month old toddler last December. He told newsmen that young Raja was taken to Dr Shuman for a minor flu ailment but that he died after few hours in the hospital, adding that after the death, the deceased parent were confused and decided to carry out a private postmortem examination in Lebanon. The result of the said postmortem, according to Lawyer Geavao showed that the deceased died as a result of some medical error. He therefore urged the SLP to seriously look into the investigation as the family of the deceased wants justice and not money. The lawyer also called on the SLP to inspect the medical qualification of the said doctor.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Ashraf Akkad said that the postmortem was professionally done in Lebanon by an expert of a credible institution. He noted that they have provided copies of the said report to the SLP and other stakeholders for investigations, adding that they will continue to seek justice for the unfortunate death of the poor boy.

The matter is currently under investigations.
