The flagbearer aspirant of the United Democratic Movement (UDM), Pastor Yunku Kanu, 30 proposed parliamentary candidates, 122 councilor candidates and a host of others have reportedly defected to the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) has been termed as a total collapse of the UDM.

The ceremony which took places at the APC headquarters on Old Railway Line, Brookfields, Freetown, past Tuesday, 20th February, 2018 saw the new converts pledging their unflinching effort and support for the APC come 7th March, 2018.

Speaking on behalf of the new converts, Pastor Yunku Kanu explained that his declaration for the APC was based on critical analysis and several consultations with friends and family members after quitting the UDM few weeks ago. He maintained that because of the trust and love members and supporters of the party have for her, he has always control over 80% of the party’s population and that when he decided to quit the party, they all followed suit.

“Today I am informing you that apart from the Regional, Districts and Constituency Chairmen and women, I also have with me over 30 parliamentary candidates and over 122 local council candidates all declaring with me for the APC,” said Pastor Yunku Kanu.

Welcoming Pastor Yunku Kanu and others, the Secretary General of the APC, Ambassador Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh cited that the APC as grassroots party is always open to anybody irrespective of tribe or region. He assured the new converts that the APC has place for them and as they are considered vital to the party. Pastor Kanu, he said, has followed the trend of the founding member of the UDM, Mohamed Bangura which, according to him, is no mistake.

He therefore called on other members and supporters of other political parties to join the APC winning team before polling day.
