NRA Shifts To Top Gear

The Principal Deputy Financial Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mathew Dingie has disclosed in the ongoing Fiscal Year 2019 Budget Bilateral discussions at the Sierra Leone Bank Complex, Kingtom, Freetown that the National Revenue Authority (NRA) last week collected Le120 billion in five days.

According to Mr. Dingie, the amount is the highest collected ever in the history of NRA’s revenue mobilization drive.

He disclosed that government’s wage bill for the month stands at around Le120 billion, noting that if the Authority could in five days collect the wage bill, the other three weeks collection would be directed to other development programmes.

Mr. Dingie maintained that with such development in revenue mobilization, the government would not continue depending on development partners for budget support, citing the last 16 months the Government of Sierra Leone has not been receiving any budget support from external sources.

“If the NRA continues to generate Le120 billion every week for a month, the Authority would be e clocking Le 500 billion that could eventually lead to the timely disbursement of funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),” Mr. Dingie asserted.
