NRA Hits Jackpot

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) under the revolutionary leadership of Dr. Jibao continues to exceed targeted annual domestic revenue collection since he was appointed Commissioner General in 2018 by President Bio to spearhead a robust internal revenue drive aimed at ensuring that NRA by 2023 collects at least 20% of GDO in taxes.

In its latest report, the Budget Advocacy Network reported that for fiscal year 2019, NRA collected in domestic revenue of Le5.643 billion; being 14.3 percent of GDP.

This feat by NRA was achieved through operationalizing of the Single Treasury Account.

Under the ‘New Direction,’ revenue mobilization is key for financing, not only government expenditure but also reducing external debt.

2018 and 2019 saw remarkable increase in tax collection by Le1.1 trillion from 2018 to 2019.

In 2020, NRA projected an estimated Le25 billion a daily average revenue collection that since the outbreak of the covid-19 in March 2020 has dropped by about Le4 billion to Le5 billion.

The steady revenue gains made by NRA in 2018 and 2019 can be attributed to the governance, organizational effectiveness, recruitment and training of more personnel and transparency in tax collection introduced by Dr Jibao actively supported by management, staff and a dynamic board of directors.
