National Electricity Amendment Act 2017 Amended


The House of Parliament past Wednesday, 5th December, 2017 unanimously deliberated and enacted into law the bill titled: “the  National Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2017”.

The bill seeks to amend the National Electricity Act, 2011, to make provision for the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) and Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) to enter into agreements with third parties jointly or otherwise, to provide for the establishment of collection account instruments for the company and the authority and to provide for other related matters.

Presenting the agreement to Parliament, the Minister of Energy, Henry Macaulay, acknowledged the tremendous strides the government has made in the energy sector which also deals with the significance of the amendment Act to the development of electricity in the country.

Both Leaders of the House, acknowledged the importance of the Amendment Act towards Electricity supply for the country. The Bill was finally passed into law with some amendments.
