Maada Bio Declares Today

The 2012 presidential candidate for the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio will today Wednesday 11th October officially declare his intention to once more lead the party to the 7th March, 2018 presidential election.

According to the Maada Bio media team, the declaration ceremony has been rescheduled for 2:00p.m. instead of 11:00a.m., adding that supporters of the presidential hopeful will converge on the bus stop at Youyi Building, Brookfields at 1:00p.m. where Maada Bio will join them for a procession to the SLPP headquarters on Wallace Johnson Street.

The rescheduling of time, according to report, was done to give SLPP members, supporters and the general public a long route to show their support for the declaration of the 2012 presidential candidate.

It could be recalled that the uncompromising and protracted battle that engulfed the SLPP following the August 2013 national delegates’ conference led to series of intimidations, molestation, violence, legal matters and postponement of the flagbearer election.

This, according to the new SLPP National Executive Council (NEC), has now been laid to rest. Impeccable party sources say thousands of supporters from across the country are already in the capital to grace the declaration ceremony of Maada Bio, who they say is the best presidential candidate for the party come March 2018 polls. His declaration is also set to be a test case of his popularity following the departure of several other contenders for the post.

Meanwhile, the public has viewed the SLPP national delegates’ conference and flagbearer election as a coronation ceremony as Maada Bio has already been crowned as the 2018 presidential candidate by the inner caucus of the party.
