Le 122B Learning & Teaching Materials Launched

The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Alpha Usman Timbo Esq. has during the launching of the free learning and teaching materials at the Government Technical Secondary School disclosed that the total amount of the materials worth Le 122,000,000,000 (one hundred and twenty two billion Leones) excluding the core text books which are English Language and Mathematics, which he said were provided by the Department for International Development (DFID).

According to the Minister, cabinet has approved the employment of 160 supervisors to supervise the manner in which the free learning and teaching materials are distributed, adding that they have already started the procurement for over 160 motorbikes for the said supervisors.

He furthered that in terms of laboratory facilities in government and government assisted schools, the government through the office of the Vice President will bring in a company from Spain that will construct a state of the earth modern laboratory for science students in government schools to do their practical tests.

The Minister asserted that for over ten years, the then Minister of Education did not recruit any teacher which, he said,  is the more reason why the academic system was stagnated due to unqualified and inadequate teachers.

The Minister called on heads of parastatals, Directors, business people and every Sierra Leonean to restore and instill confidence in government and government assisted schools as according to him, they are now doing extremely well.
