Le 10m Bail For Teacher

Justice Monfred Sesay on Tuesday 12th February 2019 at the High Court of Sierra Leone granted bail to one teacher Terry Jawara of George Washington Primary School in the east of Freetown in the sum of ten million Leones.

The accused, Terry Jawara is standing trial for the offence of sexual penetration of a child under the age of 18 contrary Sexual Offences Act of 2012.

The state alleged that the accused penetrated the sex organ of a child under the age of consent on the 27th October, 2017 at Peacock Farm, Wellington in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

Detective Police Constable, 15139, Sahr Momoh Songah testified that he is attached to the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Kissy Police Division and recognized the accused,  the victim and her mother.

He recalled that on the 27th October, 2017, he was on duty at the FSU Kissy Police Division when an alleged case of sexual penetration was reported against the accused by the victim’s mother.

The matter he said was the assigned to him for further investigation, adding that he obtained statement from the victim’s mother and the victim and there after issued a police medical form for examination and treatment to the victim.

Detective Songah further testified that the victim later returned with the endorsed medical form that was produced in court for identification and continued that a voluntary caution statement was obtained from the accused.

On the 3rd of November, 2017, he said, himself, and Detective Inspector Hawa Mansaray and Detective Police Constable 10282 Turay S.K visited the scene of crime at the school where photographs were taken and developed into pictures.

The matter, he said, was charged to court on 22nd of November 2017 with offences of conspiracy and sexual penetration.

The matter was adjourned to Tuesday, 19th February, 2019.
