In Russia… Chief Minister Signs US$150M Deal

A delegation comprising the Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Hon. Rado Yoki; Minister of Finance, Mr Jacob Jusu Saffa and the Ambassador to Russia was recently led by the Chief Minister, Professor David Francis, who on behalf of government, signed a one hundred and fifty million-Dollar deal (US$150M) between Afrexim Bank and Sierra Mining Holding Limited for the expansion of the latter in Sierra Leone at a three-day Afrexim Bank Annual Conference held in Moscow.

The expansion, according to report, will see Sierra Mining Holding Limited getting more financial loans which will create more than five thousand (5000) jobs for Sierra Leoneans in the next six to seven months. The theme of the conference was: ‘Harnessing Emerging Partnership in an Era of Rising Protectionism.’ The annual conference will see regional experts and policymakers connecting, exploring trade and investment opportunities and developing important business links.

During the conference, the Chief Minister, Prof. David Francis deliberated on the topic: Strengthening Economic Cooperation with Emerging Partners. According to the learned professor, the conference will further reflect on the strategic initiatives that Afrexim Bank is implementing to support Africa’s strategy for economic development and structural transformation as embodied in the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

This year’s conference was hosted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Russian Federation under the auspices of His Excellency President Vladimir Putin. The conference reportedly attracted a major gathering of African leaders, including Ministers of Finance, Trade and Investments, Senior Government Officials from Africa and beyond, corporate leaders, Bankers, academics and other experts.
