For WASSCE Malpractice… 71 Arrested

With its ears to the ground, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in a joint sting operation with the Central Intelligence Service Agency (CISA) of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) on Monday night swooped on a house at Aberdeen Road in Freetown and arrested 71 students and some West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) examiners.

Broadcasting the news, ACC Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala said the suspects – 23 girls, 48 boys and the WAEC examiners – were caught red-handed with the evidences.

The exhibits are fresh WAEC answer sheets, allegedly provided by the arrested examiners to the students to rewrite this year’s private students West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.

It could be recalled that a year or two ago, similar arrest of WAEC examiners and some students who were rewriting the WASSCE was made at a house in Allen Town, East of Freetown.
