Mayor of Freetown City Council (FCC), Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyer together with council workers on Tuesday 12th February, 2019 applauded Mercury International Sports Betting and Lottery Company for being the first private sector company to support their ‘Transform Freetown’ initiative project.

The Mayor’s commendation for the company comes following the donation 30 bins and another 30 expected anytime soon.

“We are happy to receive such gesture from Mercury International which, she said, happens to be the first Cooperate institution to support the ‘Transform Freetown’ initiative project.

“We are pleased to see Mercury International joining us in our campaign as we look forward to other cooperate bodies to follow their footstep,” she said, whilst thanking the Company for its kind gesture.

Board Chairman of Mercury International, Mr. Samir Hassaniyeh who officially presented the waste bin said the company is delighted to support the ‘Transform Freetown’ project adding that it is a show of their commitment towards the strides by the Council.

He said: “We are always ready to support Freetown City Council and as a show of our commitment, our initial plan was to make a donation of 30 collection bins, but we are going to increase the number to another 30 making it a total of 60 bins.”

The ‘Transform Freetown’ initiative by the FCC which was recently unveiled by the President aims at changing the city by addressing 11 priority areas which fall under four clusters: human development, healthy City, resilience, and urban mobility.

To be able to tackle these challenges, three priority sectors including environmental management, revenue mobilization, urban planning and housing must be achieved.
