For Stealing Free Healthcare Drugs… 2 Arrested

Police attached to the East-End Police Division on Friday, 31st August, 2018 arrested two suspects with free healthcare drugs and other medical items at the A. Genet Wharf.

Operational Support Officer of the Division, Assistance Superintendent of Police (ASP), Albert Kamara disclosed that they acted on intelligence gathered from the community on Thursday 30th August.

“We were informed that some people were about to smuggle drugs to neighbouring Guinea through the Wharf,” said ASP Kamara, adding that they laid an ambush for them through the night and were able to effect arrest on the early hours of Friday.

The two suspects, Billy Benjamin and Mariatu Bangura, he said, are currently helping the police with investigations.

The impounded drugs, he said, have been verified by the Pharmacy Board, TOCU and other relevant authorities and have been taken to the Medical Store at New England Ville, Freetown.

“This is the biggest discovery made so far this year in this Division,” confessed the OP’s Officer while commending the community people for cooperating with the police.

The drugs and items impounded include bed-nets, UNICEF Tetracycline Capsule, Latex, Examination gloves, among others.
