The government of Sierra Leone and that of Ghana through the two country’s heads of states, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio and Nana Addo Dawkwa Akufo Addo have in an official engagement on Monday, 22nd October, 2018 during the maiden visit of the former in Accra, Ghana, strengthened the already existing ties between the two countries.

Whist in Accra, the two heads of states had fruitful discussions on several development issues including education, improvement of the private sector, agriculture, health, fisheries and energy, among others.

President Bio and his counterpart discovered that the trade link between the two countries is not that strong and resolved to strengthen it going forward. The need to improve the educational standards of the two countries also formed part of the discussion as Ghana and Sierra Leone have introduced the free senior high school programme and the free quality education scheme, respectively.

President Addo reportedly assured President Bio of Ghana’s commitment to ensure that the government of Sierra Leone succeeds by helping it with expertise to bolster the newly introduced free quality education scheme.

At the end of the discussion, an agreement was signed between the two countries for the establishment of a permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation.
