FCC Donates To The Needy

The Social Welfare Development Sector in the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affair and the Social Welfare Department of the Freetown City Council (FCC) are reported to have distributed assorted food items and non-food items to Kissy Mental Home in Freetown and the Grafton City of Rest on the outskirts of the capital.

The Head of Social Welfare Devolve Sector at the FCC, Amara Gbaru said the distribution of the assorted goods was geared towards helping the needy with basic and social amenities to cushion their lives.

He disclosed that they receive funds from the government to help boost the welfare of the vulnerable, whilst he implored the coordinators of the two different homes to ensure that they use the donation judiciously in helping to promote the welfare of the needy.

The Matron of Kissy Mental Home, Anneiru Braimah expressed appreciation for the donation on behalf of the management, stating that it was a generous and impressive one by the FCC, adding that the donation came amidst constraints with regards welfare issues.

The Coordinator of City of Rest at Grafton, Pastor Alfred Sesay commended the Social Welfare Devolve Sector of FCC for its kind donation, adding that it took a very long time before such donation was made to them by any institution. The home, he said, is faith-based organization that does counseling and prayers for mentally deranged people.

The Assistant Director and Overseer of the Devolve Sector, Mrs. Conteh advised the caretaker of the two homes to ensure that proper care is being taken of donated items, noting that the donation was government’s effort in complementing the Social Welfare Devolve Sector of the council to care for the needy.

The items donated include bags of onion, small bags of sugar, bags of rice, palm-oil, toiletries, used clothing and cartons of sardine respectively.
