FAO Clocks 40

By way of celebrating its 40 years of successful operation in the country, Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations undertook the Zero Hunger Run exercise which marks the World Food Day of 2018.

Key participants to this event were the WFP country representative, Shout Climate Change Africa TEAM, European Union Head of Delegation, Germany and British Ambassadors, the Sierra Leone government ministers, parastatals, the UN country team and other corporate bodies.

The event began with a marathon run of about 3kilometers by all participants from the Family Kingdom axis which ended at the Gulf Club region

According to FAO Country Representative Mrs. Nyabenyi Titi Tipo, the event was a platform to call on all duty bearers to take action and strengthen the partnership towards achieving the 2030 Zero Hunger targets through partnership in the direction of agriculture and rural development.

The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Mr. Ndanema and other representatives from the government of Sierra Leone assured FAO of the country’s continuous collaboration to achieve the Zero Hunger Agenda. The UN country team and other donor partners appreciated the role FAO has played since its years of operation in the country. The Minister of Higher and Technical Education noted that FAO would be highly required for the promotion of the newly introduced Free Quality Education in Sierra Leone through its Food Support to schools.
