Falaba District By-Election Sept. 14

The National Electoral Commission (NEC), has announced the 14th of September, 2019 as the date for the parliamentary bye-election for Constituency 040, Falaba District, Northern Region.

It could be recalled that a recent judgement was delivered by the High Court of Sierra Leone presided by Justice Komba Kamanda on the 27th June 2019, that the parliamentary election that declared Alhassan J. Kamara of Constituency 040 as winner, be declared null and void and ordered for a re-run election to be conducted by NEC within the period of ninety days (3months).

The National Electoral Commission stated further that nomination of candidates will take place on the 25th and 26th July, 2019 at NEC district office at Sesay Compound, Mango Bendugu in Falaba District, adding further that the stipulated date for the submission of lists of endorsed candidates to NEC of political parties wishing to partake in the said re-run election as stipulated in Section 61 of the Public Elections Act of 2012 is the 23rd July 2019.

The National Electoral Commission announced further that in tandem with statutory instrument No. 13 of 2012, the candidates nomination fee for the parliamentary by-election is Le10,000,000 (Ten million Leones) per candidate, to be paid to the District Returning Officer.
