Disaster… Over 2000 WASSCE Results Seized

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) in Sierra Leone is reported to have seized over two thousand West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), Mr. Brima Turay, the results were seized by WAEC after the examination body discovered that many candidates used answer sheets that were different from those provided by WAEC.  He disclosed that a panel has already been set up under the leadership of the Chief Education Officer to look into the alarming issue.

The decision of WAEC to seize the alarming number of WASSCE results has reportedly attracted the attention of many civil society groups including HEAL Sierra Leone which has described the decision as human rights abuse.

Many of the civil society groups have argued that even if there were some forms of malpractices, the candidates deserve to have their WASSCE results.
