Declare Assets Now! -President Bio Insists

With the view that his appointees do not succumb to the temptation of acquiring ill-gotten wealth at the expense of the poor people whose lives they are supposed to work to uplift, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has ordered that they declare their assets as required by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Act 2008.

A leader who leads by example in terms of enforcing transparency and accountability, President Bio and Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh were the first to declare their assets to the ACC.

President Bio insists that with the ACC boss who has also declared his assets recommending that all civil servants including low grade employees declare their assets, is unmanageable. Therefore all ministers, deputy ministers, heads of departments, agencies and parastatals must do likewise.

Assets declaration is incorporated into the ACC’s corruption fighting arsenal as a means of easily detecting public officials that during the period of their appointment live beyond their means or acquire properties that are not commensurate with their official emoluments.

Having declared that corruption is a national security threat, President Bio has said that one of the benefits of assets declaration is that it will act as a deterrent to every Sierra Leonean who are or will be entrusted with the public trust. He maintains that when one serves one’s country, one must serve with honesty, fairness, justice, diligence and compassion.
