De Monk Emerges SLAJ President


The elections of executive members of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) ended peacefully last Saturday at the Golden Tulip, Essential Kimbima Hotel, Aberdeen, west of Freetown with Ahmed Sahid Nasralla aka De Monk emerging President.

At the end of the elections which lasted for the whole day, the results which were announced by the Chief Returning Officer, James Tamba Lebbie saw De Monk defeating Mustapha Sesay by 253 valid votes to 69 valid votes, respectively.

The position of Vice President was won by Esther Kanny Kargbo with 185 valid votes, defeating Ahmed Jusu Sheriff who polled 134 valid votes. The Secretary General position was won by Mohamed Asmieu Bah who polled 195 valid votes, defeating Elias Bangura who polled 119. Speaking to The Exclusive shortly after the elections, De Monk expressed thanks and appreciations to his campaign team for being very supportive during the campaign trail, whilst describing the elections as peaceful and transparent. He further reiterated his campaign promises to members of SLAJ, stating, “I would ensure that I accomplish my set objectives within my three years tenure as President of SLAJ.”
