Dayo Gilpin’s Geed Foundation Rescues Benguema

Combining work and philanthropy is not always an easy feat for a career banker.  The burden associated with this will not only come in fiscal terms but also the time spent in reaching out as well as the opportunity costs that will be forgone. The Managing Director of the Rokel Commercial Bank, Dr. Dayo Gilpin is obviously standing taller in this regard.

Last weekend, Dayo Gilpin provided over 300 children with school supplies and fed about 1000 members of the Benguema community under the auspices of his Gilo Educational Economic Development (GEED) Foundation.  Gilpin started the GEED Foundation in 2010 to help improve the educational opportunities of children especially girls. He had also supported women with microcredit loan schemes and other livelihood support programmes to mostly residents of Benguema in the Western Area Rural District.  The ideals of the  GEED Foundation are shared by Community leaders in the areas of operation and even beyond.

Apparently, the GEED foundation caught the attention of one of Africa’s premier banks, ECOBANK which partnered with the foundation to provide scholarships to over 300 children micro credit for over 80 women and educational materials. GEED has also extended to Masiaka ha intervened with special livelihood support packages to the less privileged.

Ever since, Dr. Dayo Gilpin has demonstrated immense compassion and love for his fellow countrymen. An insatiable desire to improve the lives of others may have not gotten the publicity it deserves. In any case, the Rokel Bank MD has not only shown he has what it takes to transform an intuition like Rokel Bank, he has certainly lend credence to the argument that the betterment of a nation begins with it citizens.

The Geed Foundation receives support from the Good News Prayer Group and now partners with Develop Africa (SL).
