DANGER! -Tramadol Killing Youths

By Aruna Rashed Toma Bangura

Speaking recently on the issue of youth unemployment in the country, the President for the National Youth Parliament, Isaac Andrew Bangura, said tramadol is one of the drugs that are being misused and have lately become inimical to a good number of potential youths in the country.

As a result of lack of employment opportunities for young people, Mr. Bangura said a good number of youths have resorted into engaging in illegal trade of drugs such as tramadol, marijuana, kush and alcohol product to eke out their living.

Lack of employment, he said is a major challenge in the country as crop of university students who graduate every year languish in the streets without jobs, adding that the government must ensure that youths coming out of prison are gainfully engaged in skills training in order to ensure that they don’t go back to their old self.

According to him, most of these youths are idle and lack technical skills, which is why, he said, most of them are involved in criminal activities much to the detriment of the unsuspecting public.

The National Youth Parliament, he said, is putting together a Position Paper for its international partners for more support in order to reduce the high level of unemployment in the country.

He concluded by advising the youths to refrain from taking tramadol, kush and other harmful drugs that are dangerous to their lives as, according to him, they are the  future leaders.
