CRSG Commences Rehabilitation of Alternative Road

The China Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) has commenced the rehabilitation of the old road from Hastings on the outskirts of Freetown to Masiaka in Port Loko district to serve as an alternative to the Wellington-Masiaka toll road.

According to the supervisor of the rehabilitation work, Todd said CRSG decided to refurbish the old road for those who will not want to use the toll road under construction, adding that the company is in Sierra Leone to help develop the country.

“After we listened to pleas from the people of Sierra Leone, our bosses decided to brush and grade the road as an alternative,” said Todd, adding that they are working day in day out to complete the rehabilitation work in time.

When asked if politicians prevailed on them to do it, the Chinese official said CRSG wanted to do it to help the people and the Ministry of Works, Housing and Infrastructure complied.

It could be recalled that CRSG has been operating in the country for the last eight years constructing roads in many parts of the country, including Wilkinson Road, Regent Road, among others.

Todd disclosed that they are inspecting all the roads they have constructed in the country to determine the effect of the recent heavy downpour, adding that they will amend any problem caused by the torrential rains to ensure the free-flow of vehicular traffic.
