Former Human Rights Commissioner, Rashid Dumbuya Esq. on Monday 10th December, 2018 officially launched the Christian Lawyers Centre otherwise known as Legal Link to provide legal aid to the Sierra Leone Christian community.

Speaking on behalf of Salaries Organisation for the Welfare of the Aged (SOWA), Deacon Tamba Ben Gbenda, who is also Coordinator of Sierra Leone’s Platform for the Aged (SLPA) commended the effort of the founder of the legal firm.

According to the Deacon, since independence in 1961, the aged have been left behind and there are no mechanisms set in place for their welfare, adding that there is no Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGO) or Civil Society Organization (CSO) advocating for older people in the country. Deacon Gbenda therefore lauded the effort of Rashid Dumbuya Esq. in establishing a Legal Link that will look into older people’s concerns.

He assured the founder of their collaboration, cooperation and partnership at all times and thanked God for the opening of Christian Legal Link. The Head of Department, Political Science at FBC, Dr. Paolo Bangura, who was also Sierra Leone Representative to the United Nations, said what they were witnessing was a vision he shared with the founder and he was happy that the vision was now a reality.

A Civil Society Activist and Secretary General of the Interreligious Council in Sierra Leone, Dr. Reverend Osman Fofanah averred that we live in society where human rights are nothing to write home about. He congratulated Lawyer Rashid Dumbuya for his organization’s vision and mission.

A representative of National Commission for Persons with Disability, Moore Dumbuya said they appreciated the effort and initiative of the Legal Link to give legal aid to the physically challenged.

A Civil Society Activists and Executive Coordinator for Citizens Advocacy Network, Thomas Moore pledged their underserved commitment and support to Legal Link, adding that Christian Lawyers Centre is on the right track.

In his keynote statement, the Host and Founder of Christian Lawyers Centre otherwise known as Legal Link, Lawyer Rashid Dumbuya said the Legal Link seeks to address the challenges of the vulnerable, adding that the organization will stand for the protection of human rights. He pointed out that though the name is Christian Lawyers Center, it is also open to Muslims as long as they adhere to their core values.

The learned legal luminary said their core mandate is to provide legal assistance to the Christian community, adding that the membership is open to all Sierra Leoneans as well as other nationals. He assured that the Legal link would provide awareness in terms of human rights and has the capacity to take cases to international court.
