China Clocks 69

The Chinese Embassy in Freetown on Friday 28th September, 2018 invited Sierra Leoneans to celebrate the country’s 69th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) at the Bintumani Hotel, Aberdeen.

Speaking at the ceremony, His Excellency, the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone Wu Peng, explained that China went through all kinds of obstacles and difficulties to move from a poor and bleak state into a prosperous and strong one.

The Chinese people in the course of national rejuvenation, Ambassador Wu Peng said, witnessed the historic leap of their country from gaining independence and getting rich to becoming a major world power.

“As we celebrate this year’s anniversary, our government has introduced a twist of major steps to deepen reform, expand opening-up and advance innovation aiming at the promotion of China’s development and global growth,” said the Chinese Ambassador.

China’s economy, he said, has expanded by 6.8% in the first half of 2018 which, according to him, was within the medium high growth range of 6.7% to 6.9% for 12 quarters in a row. This, he said, means Chinese economy has stayed on track with a steady progress with growing new drivers and sound fundamentals.

“Together, with China rapid development, China-Africa and China-Sierra Leone Friendship are developing at an increasingly faster pace,” asserted Ambassador Wu Peng, noting further that it is based on the fact that China and Sierra Leone share common historical experience, development task and political aspirations. He added that both countries are united forging ahead hand in hand and working to build a community with a brighter future.

He recalled that during President Bio visit to China, he met with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang the exchanged of governance experiences and sketched of an overall blue print for cooperation between China and Sierra Leone in the future years.

He expressed optimism that the outcome of that high-level interaction would immensely strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.

President Xi Jinping, he said, cherish the traditional friendship with Sierra Leone which has spanned for 47 years through thick and thin.

The Chinese Ambassador further disclosed that this year is a significant year in the development relationship of China-Africa.

Ambassador Wu Peng recalled that in early September, 2018, the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was held in China which he said was attended by the Chinese President, Xi Jinping and representations of 54 African member states.

“China and Africa Countries closely communicated and collaborated in a harmonious atmosphere and brought the summit to a complete success,” said the Ambassador pointing out that two important documents including the Beijing Declaration toward an ever stronger China-Africa community with a shared future and the FOCAO Beijing Action plan 2019-2021 were adopted with new measures to deepen China-Africa Cooperation across the board, targeting eight major initiatives.
