The Sierra Leone Brewery Limited (SLBL) in observing the Heineken Global Procurement Day has embarked on massive cleaning exercise within the Wellington Community, east of the capital.

According to the Corporate Affairs Manager of the company, Albert Ojo Collier, the cleaning exercise was organized in order to contribute to the hygiene status of the community as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. The community, he added, is badly littered with plastic waste which, he said, is hazard to the environment.

Brewery, he pointed out, believes in promoting hygiene and sanitation to guarantee a healthy and safety environment. “We want to create a positive change in the community so that others will follow,” said the Company Secretary, while urging community residents to adopt the culture of cleaning their environments to curtail certain illnesses.

In her contribution, the Procurement Officer of SLBL, Theresa Lymone stated that plastics use has been condemned all over the world based on the damage it causes to the environment and humans.

The exercise, she said, will help boost the hygiene and sanitation of the beneficiary communities.
