Bombshell… APC To Boycott All Elections If…

There is no two ways about it; a very much aggrieved, disappointed and frustrated leadership of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has decided that if the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed N’fa Alie Conteh does not resign his position with immediate effect, it will not participate in any future elections conducted by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) under his leadership.

APC’s position was adopted following the party’s National Advisory Committee’s (NAC) meeting held on Monday 18th March, 2019 at the party Secretariat on Old Railway Line, Brookfields in Freetown. The accompanying press statement issued out by National Secretary General, Amb. Alhaji Dr. Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh said NAC after carefully and diligently reviewing the conduct of NEC in the recent Ward 196 local council bye-election in Tonko Limba Chiefdom, Kambia District, reached a unanimous decision that it would no longer participate in any future elections conducted by NEC under the leadership of Mohamed N’fa Alie Conteh.

“Consequently the APC will not nominate any candidate in the pending local council bye-election in Ward 257 in Port Loko District,” the release states, adding, “We in the APC have lost faith, trusty and confidence in NEC as currently constituted to be an impartial, competent and credible institution to conduct any other election(s) in Sierra Leone.” The release added: “The nefarious actions of NEC threaten the peace, security, stability and unity of Sierra Leone.”

The APC release further states that its concerns and that of other political parties and election observers have been addressed to NEC directly in recent correspondences and in press releases, but to no avail.

“The pieces of evidence against NEC is compelling and we do not believe we should allow Mohamed N’fa Alie Conteh to drag this beloved country down the path of chaos and anarchy,” APC charges, adding, “The APC has admonished Mohamed N’fa Alie Conteh in his best interest and in the interest of peace and stability in this country to resign with immediate effect so that our revered democratic gains in the country can proceed unhindered.”

It further states: “We call on our development partners as moral guarantors of the peace process in Sierra Leone to take immediate steps to prevent a further deterioration of the peace and security situation of our beloved country.”

The release, which was signed by the APC National Secretary General, ends with an appeal to party members to strictly observe and uphold the position of the party.
